How I Lost 148 Pounds With Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Hi! Tell us about yourself…why did you decide to start losing weight?
Hello, my name is Nichole. I’m 29 and currently a mom of 2 boys. I have struggled with morbid obesity for over 10 years. My weight gain came in when I got pregnant with my firstborn and I just couldn’t get the weight back off. After many failed attempts at personal training along with dieting, I decided to seek medical help. In January of 2017, I went to my very first bariatric seminar and was advised I was a good candidate for gastric sleeve surgery. I knew more than anything I wanted to be healthier for my two sons and that was enough motivation to keep me going on my journey to overcoming obesity.
What was your workout routine? Can you give us what a typical week looked like for you working out?
One week after having the gastric sleeve surgery I started walking at least one mile a day as my body was still healing from surgery. I didn’t want to overdo working out. As time went on I started walking 5 miles a day along my local bridges.

I also went swimming and running daily to keep myself active. Going to the gym is not always an option but instead of using an excuse not to go I utilize home workouts on YouTube and exercise in the comfort of my own home.
What was your nutrition like? Can you give us what a typical day of eating looked like?
I chose to listen to my body. I didn’t try to follow the guidelines because my body couldn’t maintain the daily calorie intake as everyone is different and what works for me may not work for others and vice versa but I did ensure I constantly maintained my protein daily and took a multivitamin.
I didn’t start testing dietary supplements until recently being 3 years out. I love Fitonomy products. They help me stay on track with my protein and pre-workouts.

How did you stay motivated to lose weight? Did you ever slip up?
Honestly losing weight is the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I mentally prepared myself that being overweight was harder. I did this to save my life and when you have that kind of mindset you will go far in anything you do in this world. Honestly, stalls happen along the way but I knew I had a purpose and I never lost focus of my goal.
I tell anyone wanting to lose weight that this is a marathon and never a sprint, you don’t have to be the fastest to cross the finish line you just have to cross it and if you put that in your mind I promise you things will fall right into place.
When did you start to notice progress?
In my first month, I was already down 40 pounds. The big moments for me were when I could fit into clothes I fit in high school, or when I could tie my shoe without getting out-breath, or when I could comfortably stand on the scale and not be embarrassed by the number.
Do you have any weight loss “hacks” or “secrets” that helped you succeed?
Try not to eat past 6 pm. If you find yourself hungry find healthy snacks I personally eat a lot of jerky. It craves my hunger, also staying consistent with exercising helps your journey stay on track.
Do you have any fitness books/podcasts/websites that you’d recommend and why?
What is your best advice to beginners who are looking to lose weight?
My advice would be you can do this! You just have to start, take the risk. You can stay trapped in a body you don’t belong in or you can break free and find yourself but that choice is yours to make but I promise you, you can do anything you put your mind to doing and there is a big community out here of people who will cheer you along the way.
