How I Lost 125 Pounds As a Mom With Weight Watchers
Hi! Tell us about yourself…why did you decide to start losing weight?
Back in 2016 my husband and I wanted to start a family after failed attempts we sought medical assistance and were informed my chances of starting a family on my own with no medical support were slim to none. I was heartbroken.
After losing 30 pounds we were surprised with my first pregnancy in March 2017. I delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 10 pounds in November of 2017. To our surprise (AGAIN! Lol) we found out we were expecting another baby in July of 2018! We welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world in April of 2019. Our family was complete but my health along the way got really bad. I gained 80 pounds each pregnancy and it was time to focus on myself!
I started my journey in June of 2019 and never looked back! Having two kids under two years old was very challenging already but I made myself a priority because if I wasn’t in good health I can’t be there 100% for my kids. I started getting up an hour before them to work out. I created my own motivation, once I started seeing results that were all I needed. No one stays motivated 100% of the time. Rough times are bound to come, it’s how you deal with coming back from them. I could have failed 100 times along my journey but I didn’t let one bad day get in the way of my overall goals. I jumped right back in the following day and got back on track.
What was your workout routine? Can you give us what a typical week looked like for you working out?
When I started my journey at 267 pounds I couldn’t even go up the stairs without getting out of breath. I started slowly by taking my kids for daily walks. I got at least a 2-mile walk in every day. It wasn’t till the weather started to change and it got too cold outside to walk that I had to figure out a new source of exercise.
I got myself a tiny portable elliptical and used that for about 15-20 minutes a day till I could handle it longer. Once I was able to go on the elliptical for 30+ minutes a day I upgraded to a full size elliptical and continued my daily routine of 45 minutes each morning on the elliptical. I wasn’t very adventurous with workouts.
I was very into my routine of cardio and cardio was all that mattered to me at the time. I wish I changed that mindset sooner. It wasn’t till about two months ago that I started lifting weight and really focusing more on toning and gaining muscle (why didn’t I do this sooner!). I found a love of lifting and I knew absolutely nothing about it. I just jumped right in and started. I lift about 3-4 times a week depending on the intensity of my workouts. My new daily routine is 30 minutes on the elliptical 5 days a week and about 45 minutes lifting weights every other day.
What was your nutrition like? Can you give us what a typical day of eating looked like?
I started my journey following WW. So I was given a set amount of points each day and I stayed strictly within those points for a majority of my journey till I realized tracking for life just wasn’t going to be for me. I still ate the things I loved and NEVER restricted myself because I know that would lead to failure for me.

I ate lots of eggs for protein and they help keep me full. I ate lots of real food. I didn’t eat grilled chicken and veggies every day. I worked my normal foods into my new lifestyle. I hate burgers, bread, cupcakes, and cookies. I taught myself portion control with the help of WW. With all the knowledge I gained along the way I have officially stopped tracking with WW and found freedom with balance and portion control. I no longer feel I need to track all my foods and trust my decisions!

How did you stay motivated to lose weight? Did you ever slip up?
Nothing out there will keep you motivated more than seeing your own results! No one can stay motivated 100% of the time. It’s hard but as you form healthy habits it does get easier, I PROMISE! On those tough days, I loved to remind myself of “my way”. Why did I begin this journey? Why did I seek to mend my relationship with food? I want to pass along a healthy balanced lifestyle to my kids. They are always watching and listening and I want to be a role model for them.
When did you start to notice progress?
It took me the longest time to see results in the mirror and I still have bad days (thanks body dysmorphia!)
I would say I really started to see results about 55-60 pounds. I felt like I carried a lot of my weight in my tummy so it took longer for me to see the results. The best feeling in the world was having to replace my wardrobe because nothing fit. I will always keep one pair of jeans that used to fit (but never will again) to remind myself of all the hard work I have put in. Some days when I am having a bad day I try those jeans on to see a visual of how far I have really come. It’s an amazing feeling.
Did you use any sort of trackers/apps/scales to track your progress?
I used WW to track my meals in the beginning. I also used an Apple Watch for the majority of my journey to track all workouts. I recently got a Fitbit and have been using that to track all workouts and you can track water intake and food on the app. Super useful and free!
Do you have any fitness “hacks” or “secrets” that helped you succeed?
Find a hobby! This has saved me so much at the beginning of my journey. When I knew I wasn’t hungry but got urges to eat I would pick up a book and begin the read and keep my mind busy. I suggest finding something that keeps your mind busy and takes food off your mind.
What is your best advice to beginners who are looking to lose weight?
Jump right in and don’t wait for a new month or a new year. If it’s Tuesday, start on a Tuesday! Stay consistent and don’t give up, results take time and you may not see them right away but if you give up then you won’t see any!
