How This Mom Lost 52 Pounds In 1.5 Years With Weight Watchers (WW)
Hi! Tell us about yourself…why did you decide to start losing weight?
I gained over 50 pounds while I was pregnant with my son. I had developed a blood clot in my leg at the end of my pregnancy which led to me being on bed rest and completely inactive until he was born. Once he was born he was having some pretty serious health issues, so I put all of my free time worrying about him and basically eating my feelings.

It wasn’t until my son was about ten months old that I finally decided that I was tired of feeling exhausted and run down. That’s when I decided I needed a change. My kids were my biggest motivation. They deserve a mother that isn’t exhausted 24/7. I wanted to set a good example for them and show them how to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
I will never forget the feeling I felt when I made it through my first fifteen-minute workout without stopping. I was so proud of myself!
What was your workout routine? Can you give us what a typical week looked like for you working out?
I started with taking my son for a walk in our neighborhood a few times a week. Then I started doing workout videos on YouTube. Later on, in my journey, my husband bought me an exercise bike and I would ride the bike for 20 minutes a day.
Then I worked my way up to 30 minutes a day. Then eventually I worked my way up to an hour. I just recently started lifting weights this past year.
Find a workout that you enjoy! If you don’t like your workouts you most likely won’t keep doing them.
What was your nutrition like? Can you give us what a typical day of eating looked like?
I love eggs! I would typically have scrambled eggs for breakfast every morning. Since I’m a mom of two kids, I quickly realized that I need convenient foods, and can be cooked in the microwave.
For lunch I would typically eat a personal pizza, YES you can lose weight and still eat pizza! I also love chicken and broccoli and I would typically eat chicken with some kind of veggie or fruit for dinner. I am a creature of habit and I tend to stick with what I know as far as food goes. It’s all about eating what you love!
I am a member of WW (Weight Watchers) I definitely wouldn’t call WW a diet. It’s all about eating what you want, and healthier versions of your favorite foods!
I eat a lot of frozen meals! Some people wouldn’t think of frozen meals as healthy, but they have worked for me!
On WW we are given points. I like the points system because certain foods are zero points (chicken, fruits and veggies, etc) I like not having to track every single calorie!

How did you stay motivated to lose weight? Did you ever slip up?

My biggest motivation was that I was starting to like how I was feeling! I wasn’t exhausted all of the time and I loved how I felt after a workout!
Of course, I slipped up! I’m human! Weight loss doesn’t happen by being perfect, it happens by being consistent. Eating one “bad meal” won’t ruin your progress. Just like one “good meal” won’t make you lose a lot of weight.
I struggled the most in March of 2020. I had already lost over 25 pounds. But when the pandemic hit and I had to homeschool my daughter while also taking care of my less than a two-year-old son, I stopped tracking my food. I didn’t lose any more weight for a few months.
Finally, in May of 2020, I decided that I was ready to get back on track. I got serious about the foods that I was eating and I created a new Instagram account that was just for my weight loss journey. I met so many amazing people in the WW community that’s what made me want to keep going!
My biggest advice would be to find what you love. Do workouts that you love and eat food that you love! Make it a lifestyle and not a diet. Create habits that will help you reach your goals.
When did you start to notice progress?
I started to notice progress within my first week on WW! For the most part, it was gradual. I think my biggest moment was when I was able to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans again!
Did you use any sort of trackers/apps/scales to track your progress?
I use the WW app to track my food, I love how simple the app is to use and that it has a list of restaurants and point values of a lot of meals! I use a Bluetooth scale that connects to my phone to track my weight.
Do you have any weight loss “hacks” or “secrets” that helped you succeed?
I found that drinking lots of water throughout the day helps to keep me from snacking! I also drink water first thing in the morning, after dinner, and before bed. Sometimes you might think you are hungry, but you are actually thirsty!
Do you have any fitness books/podcasts/websites that you’d recommend and why?
I learned about a lot of different products on AlaniNu.com. That’s where I found my favorite go-to protein snacks!
What is your best advice to beginners who are looking to lose weight?
Start small! Make one change at a time and commit to it. Start by drinking more water, or going for a daily walk!
